Risk and the New Year
If you know me, I’m always advocating for risks(contrary to my mom). I took quite a few this year, and some didn’t come out quite like I anticipated. But I think the cool thing about them is that in prompts you to really lean on God in them. Especially as I have reflected on this year and the season I’m in, I don’t think I would have been able to grow and the heal the way I have without them. I reread CS Lewis’ book Four Loves(one of the five books I recommend everyone) this year and he takes a huge section to talk about risks especially when it comes to agape love:
“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal…The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell”
This next year I plan on taking a few more risks, even if it means being hurt because I definitely believe that it better to live on the edge of life than to not at all. Life is too short for that.
This year I’ve been blessed beyond measure. Despite sadness there was joy, despite heartbreak there was love though through the tough moments I’m reminded of how faithful God has been in it.
I’ll see y’all in the new year with some thoughts on Zach Bryan and some of my favorite records of the year.
